Southern New England packs small spaces with big experiences

Tucked into the Northeastern reaches of the United States, Southern New England occupies a modest footprint, but lack of size does not translate to lack of options. Instead, the area’s diminutive borders contain plenty of practical resources and enriching amusements.

Home to numerous communities dating to the 17th century, the area has been a prime gathering place over hundreds of years. Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island feature convention facilities located amid major population centers easily reachable via air and ground transportation. Wide-ranging accommodations offer historic character, incredible views, modern amenities and secluded retreats.

After meetings adjourn, opportunities for exploration await. The region’s varying terrain encompasses an array of environments that belies its compact acreage. Southern New England is home to seaside communities ranging from storied Newport, Rhode Island, to quaint Mystic, Connecticut; centuries-old capital cities; and mountain wilderness crosscut by rushing rivers. Visiting groups can follow the path of history via the Freedom Trail, cruise by the historic lighthouses of Narragansett Bay and get up close to marine life at acclaimed aquariums.

Best of all, the short distances between major meeting venues and key attractions mean planners can create an itinerary that maximizes efficiency without sacrificing fun.
