Meeting planners were educated on industry topics and trends at Smart Meetings’ event in July at Sheraton Tysons Hotel in Virginia. At the one-day experience, planners put what they learned into action during business appointments with suppliers. Attendees also toured the hotel, which has 449 guest rooms and 45,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. After a welcome breakfast, they heard an energizing speech from Michael Lyons, exhibitions director for The Americas Incentive, Business Travel & Meetings Exhibition (AIBTM). Lyons spoke about the importance of personal branding and offered fun, interactive exercises. Lisa Sommer Devlin made the complex subject of contract negotiations easily understandable. She discussed event cancellation policies and tactics to minimize attrition over convention and group-related matters.
