Despite the torrential downpours brought about by El Nino this winter, planners and suppliers braved the weather to check out the newest meeting space in Silicon Valley during Smart Meetings’ first event of the year, on Jan. 6 at Levi’s® Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Keynote speaker Michael Dominguez, senior vice president and chief sales officer of MGM Resorts International, urged attendees to continually reinvent themselves in order to evolve with the ever-changing meetings market. Drones, artificial intelligence and a travel market saturated with millennials, baby boomers, and everyone in between, were just some of the topics of focus for 2016 he discussed. Attendees later learned how to use whole-body intelligence for a stress-free work environment thanks to Steve Sisgold, inspirational speaker and business coach.

Attendees enjoyed a new way to network with Poken Spark, a tiny device that digitally shares business cards, documents and more. With a simple touch of the Pokens, planners, hoteliers and sponsors exchanged contacts and other information while engaging and having fun (and even racking up points that earned some lucky attendees fantastic prizes).

In addition to nearly 600 one-on-one appointments and networking, the day wrapped up with a tour of Levi’s® Stadium and ended with a reception in the exclusive field-level Brocade Club and BNY Mellon Club East.

Home of the San Francisco 49ers since 2014, Levi’s® Stadium is a $1.2 billion venue that was named 2015 Sports Facility of the Year by Sports Business Journal and 2015 Venue of the Year at the Stadium Business Awards in Barcelona, Spain. It encompasses 1.85 million sq. ft. and features 165 luxury suites, and 19 indoor and outdoor venue spaces.
