Hotel openings and renovations are continuing at a record pace
It seems that everywhere you look these days, new resorts and hotels are popping up. In fact, the crane seems to be a fitting symbol of the times.
This perception is validated by recent statistics. A March report from STR, which tracks supply and demand in the hotel industry, shows that 190,764 guest rooms—a 24.4 percent increase from the previous year—and 1,449 projects were under construction in the United States. Also, 571,311 guest rooms— a 14.4 percent increase from the previous year—and 4,721 hotel projects were under contract.
The current boom in renovation of existing properties also is likely to continue. These trends are providing meeting planners with many more options for their groups, but it’s getting difficult to keep track of all the changes that are occurring.
