The Westin Nashville

Hotelier Ian Schrager unveiled his Public hotel brand in Manhattan on June 7. The 367-room Public New York features a restaurant by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, a coffee shop cum grocery, landscaped gardens, 11,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and three bars, including a rooftop space with 360-degree views from floor-to-ceiling glass windows.

The property also features Public Arts, an avant-garde multimedia performance space that offers film screenings, theatrical and dance productions, musical performances, art exhibitions, lectures, readings, product launches, comedy, amateur nights and even “hot, sweaty dancing.”

AC Hotel by Marriott New York Times Square will offer 290 stylish guest rooms, flexible meeting space, a fitness center, Boqueria Spanish restaurant and the rooftop AC Lounge, where groups will be able to sip on handcrafted cocktails and enjoy European-inspired small bites. The property is due to open in December.

MGM National Harbor changed the hospitality and entertainment landscape in the Greater Washington, D.C., area when it opened in December. The property, in Oxon Hill, Maryland, offers sweeping views of the Potomac River, 308 guest rooms, a 125,000-square-foot casino, 18,000 sq. ft. of retail shops and a 27,500-square-foot spa.

Planners have been heavily utilizing the more than 50,000 sq. ft. of event space, plus other unique venue areas, such as a 3,000-seat theater, outdoor terraces and a fountain area on the Potomac Plaza. MGM National Harbor also has nine restaurants by renowned national and local chefs.

The much-awaited The Grove Resort & Spa Orlando opened 184 of its 878 residential suites in March, marking the completion of the first phase of the new property. Set on 106 acres just minutes from Walt Disney World Resort, the resort opened three swimming pools, a spa, a fitness center, two bars and lounges, a large-scale grab-and-go, a lakefront pier with water sports and a children’s game room.

Ace Hotel Chicago

Forthcoming additions include more dining options, a water park with a dual-rider surf simulator, a winding lazy river, and multiple water slides.

Nobu Hotels, the luxury hotel brand from chef Nobu Matsuhisa and partners Robert De Niro and Meir Teper, officially opened Nobu Hotel Miami Beach in January at Eden Roc Resort. Like their first hotel, which opened in 2013 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, it is a hotel within a hotel at Eden Roc Miami Beach. The hotel features 203 guest rooms—including three penthouse suites—and an extensive art collection.

“Since opening my restaurant in Miami Beach 16 years ago, I have felt a connection to this city and the people,” Matsuhisa said. “Now, with the Nobu Hotel, I feel like I have a new home.”

Nobu Hotel Miami Beach also boasts a 22,000-square-foot state-of-the-art spa and fitness facility; innovative banquet and catering menus; more than 75,000 sq. ft. of stylish meeting and event space; and innovative banquet and catering menus.

Wyndham Grand Clearwater Beach, which was unveiled in January, features 343 guest rooms, a full-service spa, an outdoor pool and 22,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, including a 10,632-square-foot ballroom. The Florida property provides easy access to local attractions and entertainment venues.

Scheduled for a fall opening, Marriott Marquis Chicago is a 40-story property that overlooks Lake Michigan and South Loop. It will offer 1,205 high-tech-equipped guest rooms and 93,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, including two 25,000-square-foot ballrooms. A meeting area on the 33rd floor will provide 4,000 sq. ft. of space and floor-to-ceiling windows that provide spectacular views of the city and lakefront. It will be connected to McCormick Place, with more than 2.6 million sq. ft. of meeting space.

“Connected to the nation’s largest convention center, the hotel will be ideally situated to host business travelers as well as visitors exploring Chicago’s magnificent attractions, including Lake Michigan, the museum and downtown business district,” said Arne Sorensen, president and CEO of Marriott International, Inc.

Ace Hotel Chicago

Preparations are well underway for the opening of the $35 million Ace Hotel Chicago in the Fulton Market District on Sept. 1. The property will feature 159 guest rooms, sweeping views of the city, open spaces, rooftop spirits and 7,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.

The Westin Nashville opened in October, adding 453 guest rooms and suites to the city’s inventory. It’s adjacent to Music City Center and steps from Nashville’s entertainment district.

Decker & Dyer lobby bar, restaurant and social gathering place is among the highlights of the new property, which also includes L27, Nashville’s highest-level rooftop bar, featuring a pool and cabana rental service with a popular weekend brunch, among other offerings. The Westin Nashville also features Rhapsody Spa and 20,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.

A unique downtown property, 21c Nashville Museum Hotel, opened this spring. It features 124 guest rooms, more than 10,500 sq. ft. of exhibition and event space, Gray & Dudley restaurant and bar, a 24-hour fitness center and a spa. It also offers arts programming that includes solo and group shows that reflect the global nature of art today, as well as site-specific, commissioned installations and a variety of cultural events.
