Hotel Valencia Riverwalk, a 213-room luxury boutique hotel on the San Antonio River Walk, unveiled a dramatic top-to-bottom renovation early this year. Acclaimed architect and designer Lauren Rottet completely reimagined the 14-year-old property, resulting in a blend of Spanish Colonial and Modern Mediterranean styles. Guest rooms now feature curved iron headboards, reminiscent of the Spanish-Colonial influence on San Antonio.

This year, The Ritz-Carlton, Denver renovated its lobby and more than 13,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space located on the hotel’s Plaza Level. The makeover included two ballrooms, six meeting rooms and a prefunction area. The lobby now includes a new lounge area with artwork from local visionaries. All 202 guest rooms were also recently refurbished.

Grand Summit Hotel Park City in Canyon’s Village, Utah, is completely overhauling all 212 of its suites (the property has 287 guest rooms total) and refreshing its 14,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. The lobby, cafe, front desk, spa and swimming pool also are being refurbished.

Caesars Entertainment Corporation announced in May that it plans to launch a $90 million renovation of all 1,270 rooms of Flamingo Las Vegas in August. The fully renovated rooms will feature unique, contemporary and retro-chic designs with touches that celebrate the property’s history as a centerpiece on The Strip. The first rooms are slated to be available in late August, and all rooms are expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2018.

“The timing is perfect for a redesign,” says Michael Massari, vice president of Caesars Entertainment Corporation. “You can’t get a better location. New rooms and new meeting space with more than 70,000 sq. ft. will enhance the overall experience for attendees.

“We’re transforming the entire space to the latest designs and technology, everything from high-speed data to LED lighting technology. The environment will make it even more conducive for face-to-face meetings.”

Caesars also recently upgraded more than 4,800 guest rooms at four of its Las Vegas resorts—Caesars Palace, Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Paris Las Vegas and Harrah’s Las Vegas.

Mandalay Bay Convention Resort Las Vegas has undergone a renovation project that added a new 70,000-square-foot ballroom and 20,000 sq. ft. of foyer space to the Mandalay Bay Convention Center, Cutting-edge nightlife was also added at the property, and guest rooms and restaurants were renovated. Mandalay Bay now offers 2.1 million sq. ft. of event space.

A complete renovation of all 15,000 sq. ft. of meeting space is underway at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco. The property also will be adding a boardroom and begin renovating all 277 guest rooms, including 42 suites, in November. Set on Market Street across from Yerba Buena Gardens and just blocks from Union Square, the hotel features a diverse art collection and MKT Restaurant–Bar.

Hotel Nikko San Francisco

Hotel Nikko San Francisco re-opened in the Union Square area in March with revamped guest rooms and public spaces, and enhancements to its 25,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. The hotel, which features a modern Asian influence, offers top-tier entertainment at Feinstein’s, Asian-inspired California flavors at Anzu, a health club, a glass-enclosed indoor pool and stunning views of the city and surrounding bay.

Featuring fabulous desert and mountain views, Riviera Palm Springs in California just completed a renovation that included a new pool bar, meeting pavilion and enhanced lobby. The property, which opened in 1959, offers 398 guest rooms as well as 60,000 sq. ft. of meeting space.

Situated in the city’s vibrant Gaslamp Quarter, Andaz San Diego completed a $4 million makeover this year that includes The Gallery, a chic new event space that displays the work of local artists. The renovation also includes amenity upgrades to all 159 guest rooms and new social spaces to complement the existing 28,298 sq. ft. of meeting space.

US Grant, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Diego

US Grant, a Luxury Collection Hotel in San Diego, was built by the son of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant to honor his father. The 270-room property is now owned by the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, which is indigenous to San Diego.

The hotel began 2016 with a face-lift that incorporates both aspects of its heritage. A new white marble promenade leads to a mirrored-wall lobby featuring rugs inspired by the $50 bill (with Grant on it) and Kumeyaay artifacts. The $13 million refresh also brought new design elements to all 33,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space.

On picturesque Kauai Island in Hawaii, Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu has undergone a $100 million project that includes 208 new deluxe studios and one-bedroom villas. Koloa Landing has a wide range of accommodations, from 475-square-foot studios to 3,600-square-foot, four-bedroom penthouses.

Other additions include a 12,000-square-foot meeting facility, a grand ballroom and two 8,000-square-foot outdoor lawns. The resort also features a new saltwater, lagoon-style pool with cabanas, a waterfall, and a poolside bar and grill.

Pacific Beach Hotel has embarked on a $115 million redevelopment that will completely transform the legendary property in the Waikiki neighborhood in Honolulu. The exterior facade, 839 guest rooms and public areas—including a 280,000-gallon lobby aquarium—are being reconceptualized, and a pool deck with two new pools will be added.

Two beach restaurants by celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto are being created exclusively for the hotel. Pacific Beach Hotel, which offers 20,000 sq. ft. of meeting space, has remained operational during the 18-month transformation, which is expected to be completed in fall 2017. Following the transformation, the hotel will be known as Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach.
