Boutique properties are accented by times gone by

Union Station Hotel Nashville

Once a bustling train station, historic Union Station Hotel wrapped up a property-wide, $15.5 million transformation in October. The new design is seamlessly woven into the building’s distinguished architecture that dates to 1900. For example, while the lavish grand lobby features commissioned art inspired by Nashville’s legendary music scene, it’s juxtaposed by the preserved, soaring barrel-vaulted stained-glass ceiling.

The 125-room boutique property has more than 16,000 sq. ft. of versatile indoor and outdoor space, including the new Azalean room, which features spectacular two-story windows framed in original Kentucky limestone, and city views. The cornerstone of the transformation is Carter’s, a sleek interpretation of a downtown speakeasy. It’s across the street from The Frist Center for Visual Arts and walking distance to famous the Honky Tonks and Music Row.

The ballroom and conference center, which opened in October, offers 4,263 sq. ft. of event space. It originally served as housing quarters for sailors in the 1940s, and has been restored to include quintessential Nantucket wainscoting detail, traditional coffered ceiling, polished oak floors and grand wooden chandeliers. The ballroom accommodates up to 300 and can be divided in half. Catering is provided by Brant Point Grill, the restaurant at nearby White Elephant Hotel, which dates to the 1920s and offers 54 guest rooms and 11 garden cottages. Both properties are part of the Nantucket Island Resorts portfolio.

The hotel showcases the works of more than 25 local artists. Serving as a neighborhood beacon, the hotel’s exterior features an eight story light installation. It has 7,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor event space, with room for up to 200 for receptions.
