El Yunque National Rainforest

Discover the wonders of El Yunque National Forest — the only rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System. Submerge yourself in beautiful rivers, take pictures at magnificent waterfalls, enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of verdant valleys, and explore the biodiversity that includes more than 240 different varieties of plants and animal species, such as the native coquí frog. During the tour you’ll see Taíno history in the form of petroglyphs carved in cave stones, and the conservation efforts made to maintain a healthy eco-system for the forest. Activities like ziplining and horseback riding can also be included. But be sure to schedule your trip in advance because this can be a popular destination.

Old San Juan

Standing guard over the Old City, two major landmarks make up the San Juan National Historic Site — a great place to get your footing in the city’s captivating history. The Castillo San Felipe del Morro (more commonly known as El Morro) and Castillo San Cristóbal are two important citadels built by the Spanish to protect the city, both by sea and land. Discover the city walls, tunnels, and dungeons, explore the garitas (sentry boxes), and marvel at the original cannons that these forts still hold. A single ticket will get you into both, where you can learn the story of the Conquistadors and the many legends that have graced Puerto Rico for nearly five centuries.

Puerto Rico Convention Center

Whether you’re planning a meeting for 10 or 10,000, the Puerto Rico Convention Center has everything you need in one spectacular setting. With a sleek, modern design and 600,000 square feet of total space, PRCC is the largest and most technologically advanced meeting facility in the region. It’s also one of the greenest, with a 20,000-panel solar array and numerous other initiatives focused on sustainability. More than just a venue, PRCC is the anchor of a fast-growing Convention Center District, with hotels, restaurants, and more. At the forthcoming District San Juan complex — located just across the street from the convention center — your delegates will be able to sip rum at a micro-distillery, dine at a world-class restaurant, and dance the night away to live music at an outdoor stage, with more than 140,000 additional square feet of meeting space.

Distrito T Mobile

El Distrito San Juan will be an ever-evolving experiential complex in the heart of San Juan. A game changer that will invigorate the city’s core with an energy and spirit unlike anything the Caribbean or the Southeast U.S. has ever seen. With key anchors including a 6,000-spectator performance and events venue, an 8-screen, 850-seat VIP cineplex, a 177-room Aloft Hotel by Marriott and the adjacent state-of-the-art Puerto Rico Convention Center, currently hosting over 700,000 attendees annually, El Distrito San Juan is certain to benefit from a steady influx of visitors year-round. Come early for events and stay long after they’re over. A Times Square-inspired, multi-sensorial and events-anchored public plaza will be the centerpiece of the entertainment experience; one that will convert El Distrito into a can’t-miss attraction for locals and visitors alike. When completed, El Distrito is expected to attract over 3 million locals and tourists each year.

Toro Verde Adventure Park

Toro Verde Adventure Park is located in the town of Orocovis, about an hour and 45 minutes from San Juan and hidden between rolling mountains covered in dense forest. The area boasts some of the most breathtaking mountain views on the island, which you’ll see flying beneath you, if you choose to go ziplining. Since the park opened in 2009, its network of ziplines and suspension bridges has steadily expanded, and now includes two enormous ziplines, The Beast at nearly 1.5 kilometers and The Monster, the second longest zipline in the world, at 2.5 kilometers.

The Casa Bacardí

Just across the Bay of San Juan, in the town of Cataño, is the “Cathedral of Rum.” The Casa Bacardí distillery produces most of the Bacardí rum consumed worldwide (which is A LOT considering it’s the number one rum in the world). Visitors are greeted with a Welcome Cocktail at the bat-winged Pavillion and you can choose between three tour options: Historic Tour, Rum Tasting, or Mixology Class. In the gift shop, you can even bottle your own premium rum directly from the barrel.

Hacienda Santa Ana

Just 15 minutes outside San Juan, the town of Bayamón boasts the oldest distillery in Puerto Rico where Ron del Barrilito has been manufactured since 1880. This rum is produced in small batches, with a flavor profile similar to bourbon, which makes it a darling of the craft cocktail movement. A visitor center was recently opened, where you can learn its history and taste what Barrilito is all about.

Piña Colada

Have you had a piña colada yet? To immerse yourself in the “Colada Culture,” you must start off your journey at the birthplace – or rather birthplaces – of Puerto Rico’s national drink. The reason why the tropical cocktail has multiple birthplaces is the long-running tussle between Barrachina and Caribe Hilton about who was the first one to mix pineapple juice, coconut cream, and ice to present the world’s first piña colada.
